Jo, my dad was also left handed and beaten into right handed submission. I believe it really damaged him in a big way. He had a personality disorder that was caused/or severly exacerbated by this cruel and abominable treatment. He eventually committed suicide and I'm not saying that it was because of this but I really believe it compounded his feelings of isolation and insecurity as a child which in turn affected his adult life and the lives of him wife and children.
