On a related subject, I had a disagreement with my kids' elementary school last year. We live in a heavily Irish area where St. Patrick's Day is a fairly major holiday. My kids' elementary school teacher was requiring all the kids to make "leprechaun traps" to bring in to school and to write articles about leprechauns... and in what I am sure was meant to be "cute" her presentation to the class was 100% "this is real."

Yet this same teacher a few months previously had refused to allow the kids to sing any Christmas carols that mentioned Jesus' birth.

So they were supposed to believe in leprechauns but never mention Jesus, as if He had no connection with the Christmas holiday. Just because you sing "O Come All Ye Faithful" does not mean you are teaching a religion, any more than dressing as a witch at Halloween (another approved and encouraged school activity) means you are a Satanist.

I truly believe we have gone too far.
