I agree. I don't look at them all as the same, but Juries seem to.
Personally, I think that people who are in cults suffer from a diminished capacity to make rational decisions. I argued this with Dave McKay over at NDN a while back. Dave is the leader of the Jesus Christians, a Family splinter group that encourages its followers to donate a kidney while still living. Dave believes that these are sane, rational adults and should be considered heros for saving lives. I think that they are brainwashed by his cult, and one day might injure the other kidney and wish they had two.
We understand this when it comes to drugs and alcohol. One can be convicted of rape, even if she says yes, if she can prove diminished capacity. But, they don't yet seem to understand that about things like cult mind control.
