Miguel,
Yes, Melbourne is just 12 miles south of where I live. Sure, California has the big surf, but there is plenty of surfing over here too. You have heard of Cocoa Beach and famous Ron John's surf shop, haven't you? Sure, the surf is smaller, but the surfers use much smaller boards designed for these smaller waves.
I'm surprised you think the news media isn't biased. There is plenty of documented evidence to the contrary. The Herst newspaper dynasty did a survey of journalists a few years ago, asking where they would place themselves on the political spectrum. A whopping 68% said they were left of center. That bias shows up in their reporting. A former CBS executive recently published a book about news media bias, and it sparked a firestorm from his former colleages in the news media.
Just look at the recent revelations at CNN and the New York Times. CNN admitted to suppressing reports about civil rights abuses in Iraq, in order to be allowed by Saadam to stay in the country. The New York Times had a star reporter who had been making false reports. He got away with it for so long, because the newspaper only checks its reporters sources once a year!
People are turning to conservative Fox News and to talk radio in an effort to find a more balanced alternative to the extreme liberal propaganda of the mainstream media.
Yes, I lived in Panama, and every country in Central America, with the exception of Belize. What about you?
