In my view it would be very important if you both attend the same church, that your pastor be very aware of your fiance's past in the group. All the church doesn't need to know but your pastor should know and be willing to talk to you both together frankly about any issues that concern you and that need to be dealt with before marriage.
One thing that bothers me is that you seem to doubt that he is being honest with you. I think you should postpone the marriage if you think he's not being honest. Either that or like Donny says, your fiance could be telling the truth but just hasn't got all the details out yet, cause that takes time. If so, be patient with him.
I think you do very well to educate yourself fully about the cult so that you understand your future husband better.
