It's one thing to have a broken heart, it's another to have heart shattered, which I believe is the case for many adults who experienced sexual abuse as children. When I listen to what many SGs say about their sreality, I sometimes think of shattered glass. I believe the process of healing a broken heart is somewhat different (and less daunting) that recollecting the fragments of a heart smashed to smitherines.
Sometimes a survivor asks, "Will I ever be normal?" For me, the answer to this question is: There is no such thing as normal. There is only accepting myself as I am today and letting go of shame. Or, even if there is something terribly wrong about me, I'm still a loving and lovable person who deserves respect.
