I agree with your post, AG, for the most part. What is perhaps the hardest thing to reconcile is that the abuses many committed against each other under the Family oppression, are resultant from years of hard core indoctrination where people (we) actually believed what we were doing was God's highest will, as screwy and awful as it might be. OR, we rebelled or avoided it, believing we were weak or wrong, or in some cases where people had less programming or stronger values in their backgrounds and less supervision, and some place to go, they jumped out of that fire. This is how I see it. That is different from people who are pedophiles, or rapists, or shoplifters because it gives them a thrill.
Most people were not thrilled with the stages of change in the family that left women scarred with STDs and thrown back out in the clubs because it was more important to "save souls" than to "save the body". Berg was making money with no regard for either the Family prostitute or the John. He had no regard for anyone but his own security.
So I do see it in somewhat different light.
I do agree whole-heartedly with what you said about adult survivors and that it is unrealistic to expect them to just "turn it over to God". After all, what is God going to do? Legal systems exist for a reason.
I guess what I see are two generations of victims. And that is all sad.
And now there are other generations to screw up.
