Well I'm glad you don't have a problem with the language. I do. For me, I see a whole lot of steps between us and the perfection of the Father.
What is the perfection of the Father to you? How is He a role model for you?
For me, He is unfathomable, beyond my comprehension, beyond my reach. I don't even think of trying to "be" like Him, because I simply don't understand Him at all, and we are separated by my human condition. I trust He understands me though.
Yes, "striving" does put a different nuance to it all, but I can't even think of striving to be like the Father. That's my relationship and understanding of "the Father" anyway.
