I posted two "traditional" explanations, and they don't follow your supposedly 'traditional' explanation.
Treating others how you would like to treated, isn't really about "oh I would like a nice cup of tea, so everyone should have a nice cup tea".
If you read the proceeding verses and the verses following it, it's all about checking your own heart and judging righteous judgement.
It's about understanding, compassion and truly seeking, which of course can be applied to the mundane day to day type things, but really understanding how you want men to act towards you, and then giving forth that same understanding to others in actions. This covers all, it isn't to simplistic or just accepting that every action you desire is desirable to give to others. But traditional thought are along these lines. So your idea that tradtional is wrong, leaves me wondering where you get your ideas of what tradtional is.
