I haven't read Bill Davis's book. Is this the one that was married to Deborah Davis? I see the family as something akin to 'Battered Women's Syndrome' and at times 'Stockholm Syndrome'.
I believe Bill Davis made a choice to join a cult and participate in everything that he did. I don't subscribe to that view.
The Children of God, the Inside Story is fully printed on this site. On the first page of chapter 13, Bill finally realizes that he was brainwashed despite being convinced to the contrary. Being deceived, or unaware of the false reality of a cult, is the nature of brainwashing.
Rusty has a hard time accepting he was deceived by Mike. I goes against the grain of his ego, much as it did Bill.
