Who wants to see Bush's effort to create a democratic Iraq fail? You won't convince me that group includes Kerry or the Democratic leadership, most of whom voted to go to war. (Let's not debate Kerry's wishy-washy record as a senator, a job that requires compromise and strategic positioning. The man has made it clear that he's not going to cut and run.)

The argument between the Dems & Bush administration is not about wanting the war effort to fail, but how to best execute the operation and acheive success. It's important to note that the Bush Administration is loosing support from key Republican leadership, too. These folks are advising President Bush to get rid of Rumsfeld.

Where does the buck stop? I'm big on personal and corporate accountability, which is probably why I share talking points with conservatives about the issues. For a number of reasons, I believe the buck stops with the CEO, which in this case means Rumsfeld. I don't want to see this thing taken down to finding the smoking gun that indicts the Secretary of Defense. George Tennet did the country a big favor by resigning. He spared us a lot of political strife. For purely political reasons--like increasing his credibility as commander and chief and being able to move on with a revised security plan--President Bush would benefit from Rumsfeld's departure at this point. I think it would mute a lot of the finger-pointing, which I agree is counter-productive.
