to me, this is one of the beauties of God's plan, that he reveals himself in the rich medium of story, rather than an orderly, point by point list of propositions, rules and regs. throughout history and all over the world, story is the way people express there sense of greater reality. i'd so much rather read a good story, or ruminate on the meaning of a good film or poem, then labor through a list of formulas, or legal documents. it is alive, interactive, and open ended. admittedly it leaves room for misunderstanding and disagreement etc. , but is in my mind a for more effective, and personal, method for self revelation and discovery.
the bible does have its share of propositional statements, but all in the context of an amazing and eternal story. and it's one of those books that as we read, we become part of the story ourselves.
that's the way i see it anyway.
