Whenever I get tempted to get negative (usually when I'm tired and overworked or getting sick) I start giving thanks for everything that I have. That takes care of it pretty quickly. I also take the steps necessary to get some rest, knowing full well that I'll be up and about and feeling my good old self again shortly.
I have a self help book that shared the story of patients coming in for hospitalization for all kinds of things - things like extreme anxiety, bulimia, anorexia, etc.... A few days after being hospitalized the patients were thanking the doctors for what they had done for them; they were feeling so much better. Reality was that the docs had simply put them to bed. Once the patients had caught up on their rest, the docs could start delving into the troubled emotions that feuled the hospitalization.
