I have also lived in Catholic countries and found that many there were very independent in their thinking from that of the church. Certainly catholic churches don't have a corner on more abuse than others. Seems in any given church there are pedophiles. But in one cult that I know of pedophilia was taught as doctrine. That is what is highly destructive imo.
At least the Catholic church is called to an accounting of pedophiliac acts. Even if there are some getting away with slaps on the wrist. I can assure you that pedophilia happens in Baptist, Pentecostal and other denominations.
None of them teach it as doctrine. But the family did, at least.
