As I recall, they're the guys who make you confess all your worst crimes & sins & they tape-record your confession. Then if you ever get upset at the group they have the blackmail goods on you.
One girl I knew wanted to confront the group about their controling beliefs & wanted to bring her father along to back her up (as he really knew his Bible) but the elders told her, 'If you bring your father, you realize that we'll have to tell him all the things you've confessed to us.'
The meeting never took place.
