I interpreted the inconsistences in James' posts that you mention as evidence he is somewhat confused. (Who in the Family isn't?) Tithing 14% to someone you consider a dimwit may be like staying in a marriage of convenience, where you stick with what you're currently doing because you haven't figured out anything better to do. He may be one of those SG hopefuls who think they can change TFI to their liking as the old folks die off and retire. He was born into the family business, so to speak, and one day the members of his generation will be running the show. He even mentioned something about the important ministries that SGs are currently running.
I didn't get the impression that James had much insight into what he was doing here beyond his stated desire to tell us he thought TFI was a safe place to raise his children. The fact that he felt the need to do this sort of thing at all suggested to me that he had some doubts about it, hence, my initial response (as Detective Columbo) was "Who are you trying to convince?"
