Just kidding.
You won't find these repercussions in all primarily Islamic countries though it is getting more widespread even with communities in the West demanding laws or living by Sheria laws and wanting them protected as in Canada and Norway recently.
I remember those early news reports by Christiane Amanpour from Afghanistan and seeing women herded like cattle and beaten wearing those heavy garments that covered their entire bodies in the sizzling sun. I am happy about the changes there and hope the man that converted gets out of the region as he is in danger after his release.
Saddam was Sunni Muslim and he was like many countries where most are muslim and as far as religion there was greater freedom.
Don't get me wrong, the man was a human stain at best. But there are still countries that are largely Islamic where a person is not in danger of their lives for religious persuasion though culturally most have restrictions which call for conversion of a woman to Islam in order to marry. There are written laws but no witch hunts for infidels. Some accept other religions though predominantly Islamic but don't allow proselytizing. I don't think Israel allows that either.
I would agree that for some time there has been a move to more fundamentalist Islam which is a disturbing at best trend imo.
I am just very happy I am living in a Western world. ;)
