My life experience living in Islamic countries that are more open I experienced very generous hospitality and friendliness when the people knew that at the time I was a "Christian".
Where I live now I know many "westernized" Islamic people who are no less hospitable. Perhaps that is why the parable of the Good Samaritan is something I relate to.
Apparently Jesus was impressed with these people as well.
I don't know how to get more basic and simple than that. I don't feel like I have to BE Islamic to believe that most of the world's Islamic people are peaceful people based on my personal experience of their kindness and hospitality.
