I was not allowed to have pets either. Many years ago, while my kids were little a dog strayed into our home and stayed. I was adamant about no pets but I eventually gave up. It was a golden retriever who stayed with us for 16 years. During a particularly low time I remember seating down by him petting him until I fell asleep. He must have been the most faithful companion I ever had. He lived a happy life and made others happy. What a line for an epitaph.
