Yes, abuse and religion go together because both take free will away. Of course, I am using the definition of religion as the organized ideas and interpretation of spiritual truths. Sad to say many people are stuck with that. Obviously you were not and left, just like I did. At some point after that I realized that sometimes organized sets of beliefs, ideas and interpretations can be embodied and transmitted by well meaning people. In many cases these people are in organized groups or churches without realizing what the substance of those beliefs are. The Family is one of them, with many well intended people who only never get or got into the Scriptures further than the surface.

But I also realized that Christianity goes way beyond groups of people willing to share something, anything, even meaningful experiences. I am still not totally affiliated with any church and yet I go around a couple of them. All of them, I have found have little things I can do and want to do. As long as they don't start messing with my free will - which, by the way, is one of the worse sins in the Christian faith, the sin against the Holy Spirit. You see? We all have our interpretations...
