PD...I had no idea about this "war on Christmas"...or rather the meaning about it...about all I used was the wikipedia and the greeting-site about Christmas.

All I wanted to criticize is the inconsistency of the pronunciation of the "letter/word-combination"
X-mas and therewith the faulty explaining away things for the "sheepy" average audience, citizen...and many of them couldn't care less it seems. What it is all about though, is to realize, when lame excuses are made...faulty apologies...when as a matter of fact, exactly that was wrong in TFI and I am not so prone to all these attempts any more...thanks to the tools I have at home or due to information of the internet.

Even if the wikipedia-article is taken to be serious, which I do actually, about the early mention of X-mas in the middleages...nevertheless, we don't have an "original" MP3-pronunciation-file attached to it...obviously...may be those guys in the middle-ages were smarter than that and pronounced it Chi...although only later in the renaissance, you had an upsurge again of the Greek knowledge...before being somewhat dormant.

Strange, that the university-societies got it all right...isn't that a bit strange?...same with chemical "lingo"...so why is not anyone criticizing those X-mas-"defenders"...reminding them of it?

As I said...I am not aware of the "war"...the arguments...but it smells "very fishy"...at the very minimum it's a sign of ignorance.Otherwise those liberals...super illuminated always scoff at the idiocy of the unbelievers and here they deliver an incredible
faux pas...which they seem to blissfully ignore...may be they got what they wanted: Christ is out of Christmas...and took the chance of some inconsistency

I haven't looked into it...why some nations dwelt in their seasons greetings rather on the holy night-theme...at least it doesn't seem to annoy anyone. With Christmas I figure...coming unfortunately up a lot in advertising...the very unpleasant commercial part of the feast...some heathen, pagan...and also Jewish neighborhoods might/were probably much offended....especially conservative Jews don't seem to like the notion of Christos=Messiah being stuck in front of their noses...I figure that lots of liberal/atheistic etc. moves were also supported by them...in efforts...to be "left in peace"/(slumber)....this is my assumption...

I can remember...don't know whether I was still in TFI...when the city council of some very major city in the US was moved/asked, to forbid the erection of a traditional manger-scene on some prominent place of town...of all things...

Reminds me of the move of some in Germany, to have the crucifixes removed in classrooms of southern Germany or elsewhere, where it is traditionally common place.

Of course I know, that the early Christians not so much celebrated birthdays...as is also later evident in comments of the partriarchs...how birthdays aren't that important than they day of death for a believer.
I had a bit of an "argument" with my own son about it...the importance of commemorating someones birthday...I think it's a nice gesture...to say...I am happy, that you got created etc. etc.

In any event, for me that is a bit like apologetics...to know, when something is a foul excuse...and I don't have to laud someone for his faulty attempt to masquerade...this is/was my opinion...unless I am wrong, which is so far not my conviction.

Anyway...I think it's part of the "falling away" IMO..here is a link enclosed about the closing of churches in Europe..an informative article.

In Germany many people left the churches over the decades...it's being said, that that doesn't mean, that those having left aren't interested in spirituality anymore...they just put their own belief/spirituality together...cafeteria-style
