about guilt

Posted by fg on September 11, 2003 at 17:26:03

i never come to theboards much but i was reading that interesting discusion below between archivist & ykw,& i got to thinking how much the sg's hold all fg's responsible, using todays standards for measuring conditions that were very different back then.
things are so different now then they were in the 60's or 70's.the whole social climate was different. there was alot more blatant discrimination against african americans.& there was open segregation, there was a real strong general rebelion against the older genearations values,& along came the hippy peace anti-war movement. a child could get beaten really bad by his teacher & his parents would support it & blame the child.corporal punishment was still in vogue. but today, you can put a teacher in jail for just threatening a pupil. in the 70s, you could watch movies like Blue Lagoon with a young naked teen Brooke Shields falshing her tits on the big screen.but today its caled childporn. deepthroat was all the rage. then emanuel.the whole bedroom practice was changing.in those days you could trust a 35 yr. old scout master to take a bunch of young boys on a mountain trek for days, & nobody collectively freaked when they heard their sons were skinny dipping faraway up in the mountains with the man.if that happend today there would be a witch hunt & alegations of pedophilia.you could call someone your china girl like david bowie in the 80's, and write asng about it, and no one would freak. we've all learned alot more about children's rights, thank God! now we know corporal punishment is counter productive.now we would never want to put our children in a situation where they might get sexual with anyone.Societey as a whole is developing & learning, & values are changing.i didn't mention any of this to plead ignorance or take away in any shape or form the crimeínal abuse of sg's.i mentioned it to say there was a prevaling lack of awareness about these issues in general.some of us didn't know better. some of us thought it wasn't abuse if a boy was being sucked off.we thought we were joining the peace corps.some of us, we really were that naieve.that's what we can be guilty for.
