You mention some examples of European countries that have socialized democracies. I'd like to point out that they have their share of pimples too. Switzerland, for example, requires its citizens to register with the local police when they move to a different town. How would you like to be subjected to that kind of big-brotherism? I have an aunt who has lived in France for about 20 years now. She has told me about how the increasing socialism, bureaucracy, and high taxation has drained the French economy. Businesses that can leave the country are doing so in droves, and the unemployment rate in France has been in the double-digits for many years. How would you like to wait 6 months for an MRI? That's what Canada's national health-care system tells its citizens. Perhaps that explains why Canadians often cross the border and pay for needed health care in the U.S.
I'm not saying the U.S. is perfect, but they do have some advantages over those heavily socialized countries. Maybe that's why there are more immigrants coming to America from those countries, than vise-versa.
