No, I don't think cumpulsory voting is a good idea. Brazil used to have that back in the early 70s, and I rremember some Brazillian COG members telling me that they just voted for the Communist part candidate as a protest vote.

Forcing people to vote will not foster a healthy democracy. People who don't bother to vote are often uninformed about political and social issues, and forcing such people to vote will only make them resent having to vote. They won't suddenly turn into intelligent and informed voters, and will just randomly pick the candidates. Our country needs thoughtful and informed voters to vote.
