My wife is best-friends with a gal who is being shunned by the JWs. Actually, two gals who are being shunned. The difference between the two gals? One knows that the JWs are a cult, and the other doesn't see that fact. The one is FREE from the manipulation and the mind-games, but the other is heavely influenced by the mind-games her family and friends is playing on her.
I'm thankful that I basically went-it-alone when I was involved in the Hare Krishas, because I knop for a fact that if any family member of mine was involved that I'd still be there. I think that peer prssure and family involvement is a KEY FACTOR to keeping someone in a cult.
It's difficult to break=awau on your own. It can take years to develop helthy social and family relationships. But when your own family is also involved in the cult, and your whole life is wrapped-up in it, that makes it even more difficult.
The sad thing is that MOST people don't recognize the mental & spiritual struggle that ex-cult-members face. They simply do not understand, and cannot sympathize or empathyze.
Unfortunatley, it's often a lonely road to recovery.
Thank God that some of us can find friends such at you (Acheich) to confide in.
