Totally agree about second generation. We don't get to pick where we are born.
I would like to add that some ex-members did not exactly join willingly, in that they were conned in what they were joining. If somebody sells me a product guaranteeing what I am buying and it turns out to be a total scam, I am not sure about the 'word' willingly in that sense, because willingly should relate to the terms of the 'original' contract of what the person was getting into.
By and large you are correct, but the word recruited would be more appropriate in some cases.
