If it were me, if there is any kind of an opening from the interviewer, I'd be totally honest and let the chips fall where they may. You never know what is going on behind the scenes. If you're honest it means you have faced yourself and are moving on. If you're not it can mean you're hiding something. The interviewer may have a cousin or know someone who has a family member that got caught up in something similar and he might be thrilled to death to know that people can come out of cults and go on to have a productive life. The point is, you just never know. Let's keep praying and expecting the best. He just needs to play it by ear but I can tell you, people who are forthright, look you in the eye, are humble, who have the attitude that "life is one big pie and I'm going after it" really impress people in interviews. People want to know if they hire someone that they can pull a load. I think your son can really swing this in his favor.
