Berg's tradition of having a "dandy bad example" to bash

Posted by ssam on June 15, 2002 at 20:18:42:

I was reading the thread about Kerry's wife, and how the "IRFers Beware" letter came about, and Donny's take on it, and it just hit me that Berg ALWAYS had a whipping boy in the shed to point the finger at, and hold up as how not to be for the dedicated disciple looking on. When I first joined in 1970, it was Jim and Cheryl Ballister, and some other poor soul who walked down the dusty road of TSC to the highway on the road to oblivion for not heeding the voice of God through His "prophet" yada, yada, yada. Then, there were always those who were singled out almost every few months to keep us all on the edge of our seats, and praying he didn't write one about us! I mean it's like a pattern that was always there. There was always someone. Later on, there was the Keda series, the Justus series, the Faithy series, the Ho series, the Mene series, the Zac Attack series, and I'm sure I'm leaving out a hundred or so more. It's ironic how we were so manipulated by these fear tactics, and how much power this man had over us. It was real, and you damn well didn't want to be the next recipient, so that's why he used it, I'm sure. That's not to mention how many times he used Jethro and Deborah, and Josh, and God knows who else. Timothy Concerned, etc. I mean it just goes on and on how he would publicly bash people to put fear and intimidation in the flock. Anyway, I thought that was pretty significant.
