Well, I think extreme forms of controlling behavior are all bad, whether they come from a woman, man or a god.

Of course the text of what you posted is aberrant and abhorrent. When it comes to "evil," can we discern what is the lesser of 2 evils? The text and practice of the exorcisms in the F (the Mene and Watchman exorcisms, with chanting, beatings, burning of belongings, imprisonment, confinment etc) or the text and practice of the Catholic abuse you describe? Which is WORSE? Maybe it is not a question of one topping the other, maybe they all belong in a Hall of Shame of what 'religious' fanaticism can create?

I dare say, however, that nowadays in most places Catholics have much more 'freedom' than people in Scientology or the F (that are pretty much total institutions controlling all aspects of the lives of individuals)-- if I had 'just' been an Italian Catholic I would have used birth control, for example. It is always a question of the degree of intensity of the undue influence we are considering.

You CAN be a Catholic TODAY and have some choices. Of course, if we are talking Medieval Times, or the Inquisition period or even the turn of the 1900's in Southern Italy, I would not have a chance myself. I, for one, would not be posting on this board, and I would be virtually burned at the virtual stake for many of the things I say. :)

I am GLAD I live in the 21st century. (in a non-Muslim country :)
