Good points, Joseph.

My thought is that if we assume the percentage of pedophiles could be similar in the ranks of hetero and gay alike, just by sheer numbers, (not being dependent on being gay, but due to different quirks) then it would make sense to infer that in an exclusively male society like the Catholic priesthood the percentage of pedophiles would necessarily be comprised ALSO within the gay population. Am I clear here? It is just what I gather from observation and what statistics I have seen so far. But then it is hard to find stats on the gender of the victims abused to test this hypothesis (both pre- and pubescent alike) because these data are kept private for the privacy of the victims etc.

The bottom line though is that the people with some kind of power prey on the disempowered and do not stop unless they are not kept in check and made accountable. I think we agree about that.

I also think that in the F just as in the Catholic church it has been harder for males to 'come out' as victims of sexual abuse because of the gay type stigma associated with that. I also believe that the abuse was predominant when it came to girls, (and women also talking about adults) but I know of 4 boys who come to mind right now who I know as a fact have been molested in the F by a man and never talk about it.

In fact, even some parents never talk about it, because this is considered even 'worse' than talking about abuse of little girls for some people in Christian circles. The horrible thing about sexual abuse is that it taints everybody who is connected with it, perps and victims alike, making it onerous for survivors to keep the issue in society's 'face.'
