race vs. gender in the cog/excog community

Posted by marina on July 08, 2002 at 10:21:16:

I was thinking about the jokemeister BAD, really bad jokes on X-fire, and these are my comments:

I agree much of what the meister posts is totally out of place and simply bad, BUT, I would also like to point out that paradoxically there are Berg supporters on that board who defend Berg's "character and sample" that includes his vicious antisemitism, his vicious hatred for women,(cloaked in the typical *love* disguise) and his sexual assaults on children.

My provocative question of the day is:

What is the difference between the judo joke and the Berg help-MEAT joke about women? (Do you remember how Berg wrote helpMEAT instead of helpMEET, and thought that was very funny?

Do you remember countless quotes (including in the Devil Hates Sex the blaming of the woman who was raped and forced to give oral sex at GUNPOINT? do you remember what he said about Shula who was stabbed and murdered? That she deserved that? that she must have been a "selfish" woman etc.? Is that so much different from the ashtray joke?

How come those quotes find apologists and supporters or at the very least FAIL to outrage just about everyone? Is that ANY different from other kinds of desecrations?

There are tons of quotes in Berg's writings where women are referred to simply as disposable material, baby factories, pieces of flesh to be used and screwed by needy 'brothers' etc. Berg even joked about keeping women 'barefoot and pregnant' -- HOW about THAT? where is the outrage over THAT?

Women were just that, MEAT to be consumed, in Berg's utilitarian and patriarchal worldwiew. I have not been able to successfully start a thread about that in the past because of the ferocious opposition of Berg's apologists and also good fundamentalist christians that have knee jerk reactions to anything that smells of 'feminism' (another bad word)

I think the jokemeister MAY be using a very awkward way to show some people that the 'horror' (referring to a line from Apocalypse Now) is ultimately all the SAME, regardless of who perpetrates it and preaches it. If instead of Jews we'd be talking 'women' very few people would clamor so loud.

Now, how about THIS for a thread?
