The not-a-trick question

Posted by Ray (repost) on July 11, 2002 at 08:05:39:

when i read your post it reminded me of something i'd read recently..a quote from david seamonds, one of the pioneers in christian counseling, and widely read author on the subject of abuse recovery from a christian perpective. the quote:

"While the bible often describes victims, never does it condone an attitude of victimization."

the folks that came to my mind were joseph, moses, david, jeremiah, elijah, ruth, mordecai, esther, daniel & friends, jesus ,the disciples, etc. the principle seemed to hold true. w/o in anyway justifying the guilty, they did seem to bear what was served them w/ a supernatural grace, and emerge from the experience somehow stronger. even the prostitutes jesus dealt w/...most likely victims of abuse.he was certainly kind to them , but his message was interesting. i just wondered how you might veiw it, being a bible reader, and counselor (if i understood correctly.) not trying to make a point...just thought it was interesting, and see if you saw something different. and if their is any helpful guidance in the principle that victims may be able to tap into? or do you see a different principle that emerges? or do you feel that it really isn't relevant? seriously, it always helps me to have a biblical principal to get a handle on things. haven't heard it discussed here...perhaps i missed it. thanks.
