Excellent post MG. And a very good post, Goth. MG about what you said, bear in mind that when "system" kids (I mean kids in the world at large) have a really crappy or abusive situation at home, that they do indeed run away. At 13, 14 and years of age.

It's true that a SG (say up to 14 years of age) is so brainwashed with fear that they're scared to death to leave the Family, but after that age critical thinking does set in enough to offset the fear. The problem is that there wereother factors at work besides the fear, and that was the whole community thing. And lots of kids actually bought into the "dream" as the FGAs had. And they stayed.

We all know SGs had it really rough and that the First Generation is in many ways personally responsible for the hardships they suffered, but at what point does an SG who becomes an SGA (an adult or older teen) bear at least partial responsibility for their "choice" to stay in the Family.

OK, "choice" is a bad word because of the fear and overpowering sense of shunning that you'll get if you leave but isn't that what the FGAs faced when they wanted to leave.

Any SGAs have any input here?
