for example, covenant house, have therapy for kids that have been throw aways, runaways from violence, abuse galore, so though not specific to the family, there are therapists who can help and self esteem is a major issue.
The Womens Home and Houston Area Womens Center, are also assisting women who have been sexually and/or physically abused, and there is a big parallel to family control and domestic violence. So the therapists there work on that. Since these facilities provide Individual (or referrral to Individual)counseling, then the counseling is tailored to the clients needs.
So, though they may not be places that deal specifically with people coming out of spiritually abusive places as a whole, it is addressed, as well as assisting with things like I.D., GED, job training, etc. Many of these places are pretty comprehensive. I have met some therapists (one with PhD) here in houston that taught on Cults and charged for their seminars for professionals. Their information was sorely lacking and very contrived in a lot of places. With domestic abuse, so many of the same questions come up like "Why didn't you just leave?" "How could you let that happen to you/your children?" Professionals help women to regain self-esteem and build healthy support systems. So, it is quite a bit more than just food in shelter in most of the places.
