Look at it from the point of view of the network.

You've volunteered to come on their show.
The family hasn't.

You have signed a waver promissing not to sue them for anything that's said.
The family hasn't.

You can be made to look like a fool and a disgruntled perverted ex-member of a cult.

But the family will not be directly accused of anything. Except by you.The family might even come out looking like the good guys.

A good example of exactly this situation is in the movie "The Brotherhood of the Bell". The main character, a former member, went on a TV talk show trying to expose a Masonic type fraternity that systematically destroyed anyone who stood in its way.

At first the host of the program made him feel like he would be able to really give his message, but when the time came they made him look like a fool who was accusing others for his own crimes.
