My monthly newsletter

Posted by on September 16, 2002 at 19:45:35

I do an (almost) monthly newsletter along the topic of aromahealing and natural health. This is September's issue. I study and sell essential oils, so much of the information is based on that, along with other health information. If you'd like to subscribe to the NL, send a blank email to ') with 'subscribe to NL' in the subject or text line.

Peace!

AromaHealing Newsletter
Vol.1 Issue 6 September 2002

Hey Friends! I can¡¯t believe I haven¡¯t done this newsletter in a couple months. Actually, I can believe it,
but I have a good excuse, sort of. Summer vacation was here and along with it the kids, activities, the pool,
river, outings and BBQs, and before I knew it, the months passed away and I hadn¡¯t gotten to this newsletter.
I took a chance at writing my own article this time. You¡¯ll have to be my critique audience, I¡¯m not posting it
anywhere just yet. Do let me know what you think after you read it though.

Healing the Natural Way
Erinn La Mattery¡ªND in the making

When people hear I am studying natural healing, herbs, essential oils, and subjects relating to them,
they get very interested. They start asking me questions about their physical ailments, what would I
recommend for this that and the other. I am always happy to give what recommendations I can,
unfortunately I wish I could offer more advice, but as my knowledge is still limited, I can only suggest
what I know, and oftentimes I take some time to study the subject further on the Internet or in books.

It has been interesting for me to research physical conditions and natural solutions for those conditions,
and I feel like the more I know, the more I know I don¡¯t know. One thing I¡¯ve noticed though is that many
people are looking for gunshot healing. They are searching for a one-shot cure-all, and are often willing
to give a natural remedy at least one chance, but if it doesn¡¯t do the trick, they abandon the effort and
label the natural remedy as quacky, or insufficient.

Through the many studies I have managed to do, there is one common thread, and that is this: if the
body is sick, you must address the deeper issues and take the time to heal yourself and bring your
body back into the balance you were originally born with. It doesn¡¯t happen overnight with one dosage
of whatever form of medication you choose to follow. It requires your determination, effort and commitment.

I have seen immediate healings, I have seen bruises and swelling disappear in minutes, gushing blood
wounds stop within seconds of bleeding, a friend of ours applied an essential oil to a lump he had under
his eye for 2 days, the lump was gone within 20 minutes.

But it is my firm belief that when deeper rooted conditions are involved, you must give your body the time
and materials it needs to repair itself. If your body has been battling a particularly debilitating sickness
for an extended period of time, then it would be proper to assume that it will take time for your body to
heal itself once you start on the path of natural health.

But you must put the effort into it. If someone comes to me with chronic constipation problems, yes, I
can recommend several herbs or essential oils to use, but what if that doesn¡¯t work? Did the natural
remedy fail? More likely, there are deeper issues present which need to be addressed first. Why is the
body not functioning as it should, what is the underlying problem? If the problem is that the colon has
been damaged, then we would need to back up another step and take another route.

If someone were to come to me asking for help with eczema, yes, I can give them a salve or recommend
something to alleviate the surface problem, but what must be addressed is the underlying causes, what
is the root of the problem and how to overcome it. In each case there could be more than one cause, and
it takes time to determine what the root problem (or problems) are, and time for the body to restore itself
to its natural state of good health.

Gunshot healing is possible, it has happened. We¡¯ve read about it in the stories of Jesus, we may have
seen it in our friends¡¯ lives or our own, but in many cases natural healing doesn¡¯t equate miraculous healing.
Natural healing equates working with your body and its unique structure, taking into account aspects such
as age, blood type, past history of illness, your pH levels, your hormone levels, and working from this base
to help correct your body¡¯s natural processes and functions.

I would encourage you to not give up on finding a solution to your physical challenges. Read, research, ask
questions from people who have experience and knowledge, and be willing to make the effort to regain
what is rightfully yours.

There are some basic steps to take when you begin your journey of bringing the body back into balance
and health, which will be covered in our next issue. Stay tuned!

Essentially Yours¡ªGary Young

Over 70 years ago Rene-Maurice Gattefosse, Ph,D., coined the term ¡®aromatherapy.¡¯ Dr. Gattefosse was a
French cosmetic chemist who had learned that essential oils¡ªthe aromatic substances found in many flowers,
trees, shrubs, herbs, bushes, roots, seeds, leaves and stems¡ªcontained healing properties. This was not new
information. Ancient people revered the power of essential oils. But, over time, the knowledge they had was lost.
But the time of Dr. Gattefosse, essential oils were a forgotten science that had to be rediscovered. Gattefosse
once said, ¡°We do not understand the mechanism of the structural function of essential oils at this time.
We just know they work.¡±

My quest over the nearly two decades that have passed since I discovered the inherent power of essential oils has
been to find out how and why they work, and then to share that knowledge with the world.

In my studies and in the research I have done, I learned that essential oils have the ability to travel quickly through
the body when they are inhaled or applied through massage. The molecules are so microscopic that they can easily
penetrate the fatty layers of the skin. And because they are extremely soluble, these molecules have the ability to
travel trans-cellularly, or directly through the cells. Their ability to penetrate deep into the interstitial fluids may explain
why essential oils enhance circulation, and why massages with oils can be so beneficial. They also increase the
secretion of important natural substances within the body that promote well being and a state of homeostasis.

Back in the 1940s, researchers discovered that when oxygen levels in the blood decrease, the potassium/sodium
balance is upset. While the level of sodium goes up, the potassium goes down, and this changes the body¡¯s pH level.
This is the beginning of what is called the ¡®acid cycle¡¯.

When the acid cycle is in place, the plasma, or cell membrane, starts to thicken so that nutrients are not able
to pass through it as well as they normally would. The nutrients are start clustering around the outside of the cells
and, as they do, they begin to putrefy and create a toxic gas that removes even more oxygen and increases the
sodium even more. The result is increased acidity of the blood, which opens the door for many problems.

Essential oils have the ability to bring the blood back to a more optimal pH level so that it can function as it should.
Because in some ways essential oils mimic other vital substances, they allow and encourage the body to work as
it was designed. Many thousands of people believe that they literally bring about miracles.

In our time we are challenged with health and emotional or spiritual problems that are brought about because of the
pollution that surrounds us and enters our bodies. That is why essential oils are so important today. They provide an
answer for the difficult times in which we live. I am proud that Young Living¡¯s essential oils are therapeutic-grade and
that they play such an important role in bringing about better lives for millions of people.

Questions, Answers and Tips
Q: I¡¯ve had a rash for awhile now, I¡¯m not sure what to do about it, would you have any advice?

A&Tip:¡¡The first question is where is the rash stemming from. A rash is in many cases a sign
that your body is releasing poisons and it coming out through your skin. Perhaps the poisons
are from a bug bite, a brush with a plant, an allergic reaction, something you ate, or some sort
of build up in your body from the use of toxic materials.
You can try some lavender oil , peppermint oil or Melrose oil blend diluted in a base oil of
approximately 1 drop to 1 Tablespoon. When trying a new oil, always do a small test patch first
to ensure that your body isn¡¯t too sensitive to it. Then apply it. If it is too strong, apply some more
base oil to dilute further. Here are a few more oil ideas:

Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree)
Patchouly
Helichrysum
Rose
Roman chamomile
German chamomile

You also want to get to the root of the rash, if it is from a bug bite or plant (ivy poison) then you
know the problem. Taking the time to cleanse your blood and intestinal systems if you have a rash
that you cannot get rid of could prove to be helpful in ridding your body of the toxins that may be causing the problem.

Oil Focus¡ªMelrose
This blend has antiseptic-like properties when used topically for cleansing cuts, scrapes, burns, rashes, and
bruised tissue. It may also help prevent growth of bacteria, fungus, or infection. Melrose is very strong in the
regeneration of damaged tissue and helps fight infection and fungus. It is very beneficial for animals such as
horses, dogs and cats in the same way it benefits humans.

Melaleuca (Melaleuca alternifolia) is antiseptic, anti-infectious, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic,
anti-inflammatory, immune-stimulating, decongestant, neurotonic, and protects against radiation.
Melaleuca (Melaleuca quinquenervia) is anti-inflammatory to the respiratory system and urinary tract, tonic
to digestive system, antihypertensive, anti-infectious, antiviral, anti-parasitic, and antibacterial. It has been
used by European doctors for liver and pancreas deficiencies in children, viral hepatitis, colitis, ulcers, rheumatoid
arthritis, hypertension of the arteries, and eczema.
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) has been researched for its antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. It may be
beneficial for skin conditions and dandruff. It may help fight candida and is anti-infectious, antispasmodic, balances
the endocrine system, and is an expectorant. Rosemary helps overcome mental fatigue stimulating memory and
opening the conscious mind.
Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) was another oil from the Orient hailed as an oil of great abundance; those who
possessed it were considered wealthy. This oil is one of the most antimicrobial and antiseptic of all essential oils.
It is antifungal, antiviral, anti-infectious, and antibacterial. Clove works as a general stimulant and is used to treat
sinusitis, bronchitis, cystitis, and cholera.

Application: Diffuse to dispel odors, apply topically on areas where the skin is broken, including cuts, scrapes,
burns, rashes, and infection. Put 1 to 2 drops on a piece of cotton and place in the ear for earaches.

Companion Products: Rose Ointment (to keep wounds soft and promote healing).
Fragrant Influence: Dispels odors.
