Acheick, I was a substance abuse counselor for years, and I can tell you, that I did not get my license (will explain in detail, but not because of grades or ability, I was a 4.0 student). I can tell you that any treatment of addicts does not avoid the subject of addiction. There are classes about the addictions, there are losses due to it, groups on these losses and on actions people took that they feel deep shame about due to their addiction. Trust me (or not) but the issue is definitely not avoided. There is far less relapse back into the family than there is back into heroin or alcohol or crack etc. And many people in drug and alcohol treatment facilities have relapsed and had more than one bout with treatment. Another factor is that ex-addicts do make excellent counselors and workers but so do those that have never been an addict. I like MVs dream and agree that the scholarship program could be a part of something like a treatment program. Of course, it could be one program by itself. And everyone has the right to support whoever they deem worthy of help. I hope the majority of adult survivors of the "Family" cult do not feel that resources on older exers would be wasted, or undeserved. I don't get that. The org. that I posted to MV about helps women from age 18 and up. (up to 60 or so I believe)
