Not for a Million Dollars

Posted by Acheick on February 24, 2002 at 10:26:46:

Thanks to Jemivah and Joseph for finding it, I picked up the book Not for a Million Dollars by Una McManus. I am shocked to find out that the F. actually lost a million dollar lawsuit against them. How clever that they hushed this one up. Whether she collected or not may be another story, but this is a lawsuit no one ever heard about. I'm going to contact someone I know in law and find out if he can get the brief for me. Unfortunately, she doesn't give the case #, whether it was in federal or superior court, and not even really the year. But with her name and the place and the judge's name, perhaps I can find it. I think this is a monumental discovery.

What interested me about this book is that it's a story so much like Mercy's story. Any one of us could have written this book and the story would have been about us, at least partially, not every detail of course. Even as far away as Dublin where she joined, the spirit and the hireling type of administration of the F. is so evident and clearly portrayed. The cultic tactics of suppressing information, severing ties of new members from loved ones and family really is a crime. Berg did such a good job of training his leadership. Of course, he was there in London during the time she joined and the whole leadership structure was firmly in place.
