Didn't mean to sound paternalistic - I was in a big hurry. Acheick explained it very well - the decision was made without everybody being consulted. My fault. Sorry.

As Acheick said, banning is a drastic measure, and in this case, we were not dealing with someone who was hell bent on messing with people's minds over a long period of time or anything serious like that.

Joshua is just more of an irritation and I'm not sure he can help it - he has repeatedly made posts of little value or sense, posts that were inaccurate and upsetting for others, insensitive posts with ignorant comments, rebuttal posts that were even more ignorant, posts that advertised piracy products, imperative calls to religious activism, posts that seemed to be addressing audiences that don't belong to this board... and he has cluttered up the board reposting lengthy articles already on this site without making his point known, and so on.

To be fair, I think Joshua doesn't know any better and doesn't mean any harm. At times he actually thought he was being friendly and helpful. If Joshua is to be allowed to post, I thought it would be a good idea for Joshua to cool off for a while. So I said he'd be suspended for a week. We had discussed the idea of temporary bans before, so I rushed into yet another decision on my own.

That's 2 things I did without consulting everybody due to lack of time. Sorry, I've been busy.

Well, about all I might have succeeded in doing was pissing him off. With what he wrote in response to being banned, I am of the opinion he should remain banned, and he said he didn't want to come back anyway. But it's not all up to me, and as I said, I rushed into unilateral decisions twice.

Sometimes it's like that Aesop's fable, The Man, the Boy and the Donkey. There's someone to criticize you no matter what decision you make. Running a board ain't easy! :-p
