I can see clearly what Goth is saying and the point that you are making too.

I figure since I automatically know what kind of people Goth is referring to when she says, fundies or fundamentalists it doesn't matter what the dictionary says.

Sometimes that's the problem with dictionary definitions: because the meaning in the language being used, especially in the cyber accelerated information world community, can be so kinetic. I vote for liberalism in allowing subjectivity to the communicator's choice of language usage, & tolerance for personalized conveyances of meaning for what will thereby be understood; as opposed to mere dictionary fundamentals ...oh oh ...there's that word again ...the f word.

Maybe my opinion stems from the fact that I teach English as a second language to adults. A writer will probably be more discriminatory. Now there another word with multiple functions.

Wow that reminds of a paper I had to write when I took the course for my teacher's certificate: it had to do with Concept Questions and Meaning, Form, & Function. I barely scratched the surface in the research I had to do to get the work done, but it helped to see language in a way I never before dreamed existed.
