You're describing what had become an actual crisis or war situation where actual Federal troops with guns WERE attacking the Koresh compound. The dynamics there are are multiplied and the danger much more real.
The original question was "What would you do if you came down for devotions and your shepherd was all glassy-eyed and said he'd received a Letter to commit suicide?" That was more like Jonestown and the White Night, and that's what I was responding to.
You've raised a different issue where there's little time to react and reflect. In times of danger even the uncommitted fall into line, and Waco (where there was a shoot-out) was such a time. Different situation, different dynamics.
