The "pretext" was kidnapping

and The Family micalculated political realities when they figured they could somehow get away with kidnapping four American children instead of returning them to their surviving biological family and father. When you kick a woman out of The Family and not only keep her children but also entrust them to the care of an unstable man with an extemely long history of being a perpetrator of domestic violence and sexual abuse, then you have crossed a certain line and have absolutely no right to expect a calm, neat, orderly and blind application of justice such as might be expected in "the best of all possible worlds."

If the Family had not obstructed and delayed justice for so long and provided financial assistance and support to the the individuals personally involved in committing crimes such as kidnapping and sexually abusing and physically torturing children, then perhaps the outcome would have been different and the case would have been handled in a better way.
