As an English teacher here in France, one of my students was a woman doctor who had for many years "worshipped" her sun tan. In summer she had spent many hours each week lying in the sun and in winter she went regularly to the tanning salons. Even as she approached 50 years old she was still addicted to her suntan mania.
I can't begin to describe the state of her skin.
Her neck resembled brown elephant skin and was marked by all sorts of growths and tumors. I have a lot of that sort of thing myself due to my childhood summers in the Texas sun. But she had a double dose.
UV radiation, whether from the sun or from a florescent UV tube is bad for you. Eat a lot of carrots and you'll tan easier with a lot less damage.
