Questions to MG

Posted by marina on April 30, 2002 at 15:35:47:

Hi,

since I read you left the F only a year ago, I would like to ask you a few things:

1) how come you are so...sane? I mean you sound as if you still have a fair amount of critical thinking and reasoning skills left. Some of the cmembers I have known that are in are more like vegetables. They don't seem to be able to sustain a normal, rational conversation.

2) Are there other people in the F like you today? People who still think but keep their thoughts under cover for a long time? I mean, should I believe that most of the people that have been in 20, 25 years are all "true believers" and have totally lost a frame of reference, or is it tucked away somewhere with the possibility of resurfacing? And in your opinion, what are the factors if any, that can help "that" resurface?

Hope this is not too personal. I would really like to know what you think.

A few words about me: I was never considered too "revolutionary" (residual critical thinking never abandoned me completely in spite of the exorcisms and the punishments :)and there were many things I could not accept, but it seemed it was easier for some others. I wonder if we are here today because we are the ones who just could not swallow that stuff completely?
I left in Italy in 1992. In fact, I lived in Europe most of my life. (I am interested in the viewpoints of exmembers who are not American, since there are some cultural and background differences in my opinion.) Since I joined at 16 I had spent half my life, and all of my "adult" life in the F by the time I got out. It was a long and difficult process. It has been exactly 10 years now.
