Actually, there are type of castilian. Castilian the old, spoken in the north west before Galicia, and castilian the new, spoken in madrid and southern towards Toledo, Sevilla, before Andalucia. I guess Mexican is just as valid as any of these dialects and we can still wonder how Spanish compares to Puerto Rican, Venezuelan and Uruguayan. Funny babilonian world of dialects.
