Probably one of THE very best novels I've ever read. You simply will not think of books the same again. In a nutshell it's the story of a missionary family who went to the Congo shortly before it fell into chaos and civil war. It's a story about the coming of age of 4 daughters of a super-rigid father, not unlike many of the fathers in the Family, sad to say.
It was on Oprah's book club list, whatever that's worth. The book is a classic and fortunately is now in affordable paperback.
