Better to explain

Hi Juni,

First, welcome to the boards, you've added a lot of quality content and discussions, and we really appreciate it.

We get to discuss a lot of issues here, some of them about which we are very passionate. Politics is usually where we get ticked off. Sometimes one of us will get really put off by another's comments, and feel like we just can't do the subject justice. (Confession: I've been there many a time.)

We all have our thresholds, our don't-even-go-there places. After going though the trouble of working out who we are and what we believe, we have little tolerance for the "unenlightened."

One thing that really helps though, is to get on an even discussion level, get explicit and dig into the details, and explain your view, rather than say you're so put off (or too far above and too way ahead) that you can't deal with it. (confession: done it myself too!)

We're all on a learning journey, and we're here to exchange ideas with each other. It always amazes me how many of us have learned to change our strongly held views of many years, from reading and exchanging posts on these boards and having intelligent dialogue.

This medium of communication has its weaknesses: lack of body language cues, little provision for language difficulties, the possibility for following a discussion in the wrong chronological order, potential interjections without knowlege of previous discussions, etc.

So give it a chance: no need to get personal with Sam, you may be rushing to conclusions. Have some patience, and try to explain your views. If nothing else, you simply agree to disagree. The rest of us get to learn from your discussions. I know I'd appreciate your taking the time to explain more about these super-interesting topics.
