When does the need to build your own life take precedence over setting the past straight & helping others settle issues?

Always. And not just over setting the past straight and helping others settle issues but in all things. I've come to believe (from doing it the other way around) that taking care of myself first comes first before I can even think about taking care of others. I find that the energy that I generate from this new paradigm is more genuine and sincere therefore longer lasting than before. When I take care of myself it shows and I inescapably become a positive influence on others, wittingly or not. This is such a radical shift for me that has taken a lifetime to come to. But am so glad I have. Better late than never. It may look very selfish on the surface, but try it and you'll understand how truly unselfish it actually is. The process may take longer for results to start showing but I guess the choice comes down to quick but shallow or long but deep. Inside each of us lie the answers to all our nagging questions about our individual and collective pasts. It takes greater courage to face the ugly truths about our own self than to try and make everyone else face theirs. And when that happens, it'll be at just the right time and just the right place. I hope I'm making sense to some.
