well, i'm no chemist. i just don't see that unravelling the complexity of human experience being so formulaic. deconsructing is essential. but when analysis takes place of something such as our lives , and the lives of our loved ones, it does seem to be a mixed bag. but in thinking back over 20+ years of experience , i do not see it as one long demonic possesion. there are many many regrets, many choices and actions to be repented of, painful realizations and admissions, apologies to be made etc. certainly every life that arrives at middleage faces some of this. (we , of course , are in another league!) but i'm not sure i see how leaving out the many other ingredients in our lives, sincere love for God (tho His image was distorted , again not a new development in history...), idealistic motivations , etc. ..are helpful in the only real power we have in the situation.. moving forward in our lives w/ an integrated sense of reality... and of our own personhood. does cordoning off the entire block off our lives as a toxic waste site and prescribing kicking own's own ass till the end of time, help? i certainly agree that the question of "why" is a tough one to grapple w/, and perhaps beyond a total solution this side of the curtain. but in the search for healing, and in trying to rebuild trust in both God, and my own sanity, i personally have found, and i think much of the literature on spiritual abuse would agree, black and white thinking is not the answer. ibelieve that an honest, rigorous dialogue with God, in the spirit of Job, and many of the psalms, open to the conviction of the HS, and willing to face up to where each of us personally screwed up,and turning to the throne of grace w/ each sin, may in fact be a more complicated path, but more biblical, and in the long run more holistic, and effective.(and along the path, it may also help to try to remember the many things we have to be thankful for, imo. )

if God had totally abandonned us during our time in, it presents a pretty bleak theology, don't you think?

may the sun break thru on your day..
