Perhaps it does show Ed's sarcastic humor, but most people would agree that someone continually clutching a wine bottle, burping, shouting, 'sadly' clutching a snot-filled hanky, sadly holding up the snot-filled hanky, etc. shows a pretty sad picture. I believe this compilation of actions was to show that Berg was drunk out of his mind, not speaking 'in the Spirit'.
